Frequently Asked Questions

It is my first time climbing. What should I do?
Rock climbing is an amazing sport, for beginners and experts alike, and Hangar 18 has got the classes and the introductory packages to get you started right. All of our locations offer introductory classes, covering bouldering and facilities that offer top-roping will offer a top-rope class option as well. Our staff will teach an introduction to bouldering, covering a variety of climbing techniques and information to get you started on unroped bouldering walls or teach you how to operate all of the necessary equipment to get into roped climbing.

For this reason, we always recommend two choices for first-time climbers; our Intro Packages, which include the lesson, rental gear, and a day of climbing, or our monthly membership, which includes the same Intro Package, plus a month of climbing at all ten of our gyms, a guest pass, and all of the other perks that come with a membership for just a few dollars more than the price of one day. New climbers are always welcome to try out a monthly membership, and cancel it whenever they want with no cancellation fees. Please note that if it is your first time climbing in one of our facilities a day pass is not an available option and our Intro Package is required.

Do I need a reservation for my first visit, or are there specific times that I should come in or avoid coming?
No reservations are needed for our intro lessons; they are all done on a first-come-first-serve basis at the top of every hour starting at 11am and ending 3 hours before we close that night. Please make sure you arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the top of the hour to ensure enough time to fill out all necessary paperwork and watch our orientation video. The toprope belay lesson takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour, and you do need a partner to take part in this lesson. Our bouldering intro lesson takes roughly 20-30 minutes to complete and is done on a walk-in basis.
My kids climb on everything. How old do they have to be to climb at Hangar 18?
Climbing is an awesome sport, and we love seeing kids in the gym. While all kids need a waiver completed by a parent or legal guardian to participate (which can be completed by clicking here), we welcome kids of all ages to come to enjoy our facilities, and we do not charge parents to come in and supervise them while they are doing so (unless they are participating in a belay lesson or other class). The minimum age for kids to climb unattended is 16 on both the bouldering and roped walls, anyone under the age of 16 must be attended by an adult over the age of 18 at all times. Our minimum age for rope climbing is 2 years old, and we do require that children 5 years old and younger remain only in the toprope areas of our facilities. Children from the ages of 6 to 10 may boulder in our facilities but must have an adult spotting them at all times. While we only require spotting up to 10 years old, we do recommend it for all children 13 years and younger, even if a spotter is not present adult supervision is still required, and that adult will still be responsible for the conduct of their children in the facility.
I need to make a change to my membership, what should I do?
While any changes to your membership can be made in person at one of our locations at any time, you can also do so online by clicking here and completing any relevant information. Please remember that all changes do take 5 days to process so if you do have a time sensitive issue such as a cancellation be sure to complete this form far enough in advance to give our system time to process it for the upcoming month.

If you have an issue that needs to be resolved via email, be sure to give us enough information so that we can find your account. The information that you will need to include in your email is your full name, date of birth, which location your membership was purchased in, and your key-tag number. If you are contacting us regarding multiple memberships, be sure to include everyone’s information as well. You can email us by simply filling out the form at the bottom of this page.

I want to schedule a group event how much does it cost?
Our group events are a great way to celebrate a birthday or to bring your staff together for a corporate event. All of our group events include our helpful staff to assist you in either top roping or bouldering, a 2-hour climbing window, and all the gear you will need to climb. Some locations include access to a party room as well, though please check with your local location to see if this is offered. You can book a party by selecting your nearest location from our “Locations” page and clicking the “Book An Event” button at the top of that page (due to current city legislation our Arcadia location is currently unable to hold group events). Once on our book an event page you will be asked to pay a $60 staffing fee to reserve your event date and time at the facility you have selected. At the time of the event, you will be charged $16 per climber that participated in the event. If you booked for 20 people, but only 18 participated, we will only charge you for those 18 climbers. If you are looking to book a Boy Scout merit badge event, please call our Upland location at (909) 931 5991 and our staff there will be happy to assist you. Our merit badge package is $35 per climber plus a $75 staffing fee and is capped at 12 climbers per event. This event is a 3-hour event with a certified merit badge instructor and covers everything needed to finish the merit badge.

Please wear clothes that are suitable for a workout environment, and we will provide you with the rest. Your Intro Package will include climbing shoes and a harness (if you are taking the belay class) to get you set to get to the top of our walls. You also have the option to purchase a bag of climbing chalk for an additional $4 if you would like to do so. This gear will cover all your needs while at the gym and you’ll be climbing in no time!
Is rental gear included with my membership?
Rental gear is not included with membership unless you purchase a one year membership during a sale where it is specified to be included. Rental gear is included the first day you sign up for a membership and on any return visits it a $3 for rental shoes and an addition $3 charge for a rental harness if needed. Climbing shoes are required at all times while climbing.
