What Our Customers Are Saying

Don’t just take it from us, let our customers do the talking!

“I love climbing at Hangar 18! The staff is friendly and welcoming to climbers of all ages and ability levels. A lot of gyms feel sort of elitist, but Hangar seems to be all about giving all levels of climbers a good time in a safe and clean environment. There are plenty of routes for everyone, and the routes are creative and fun. The staff is skilled and knowledgeable, will teach you how to belay, and they even have lead lessons for those interested. The bouldering cave is awesome. Also, the staff keeps the place clean! So yeah, I liked it.”

“The husband and I brought my 4 yr old and my 13 yr old niece. Isaac gave my hubby and I lessons on how to belay then turned us loose! Isaac explains slow, repeats often and builds confidence without making you feel dumb. His thorough instruction made us feel safe in our OWN hands! The teenager had a blast, the small child got tuckered out and both me being out of shape and the hubby being in great shape felt challenged and had fun!”

“I’ve been coming here for about three years now and even though they are smaller than some other climbing gyms, the customer service and belaying lessons are great! They have a wall designated for rock climbing and another adjacent wall for bouldering with cushioned mats all around. The skill level of the climbs are clearly labeled and they change it up pretty often.”

Frequently Asked Questions

It is my first time climbing. What should I do?

Rock climbing is an amazing sport, for beginners and experts alike, and Hangar 18 has got the classes and the introductory packages to get you started right. All of our locations offer introductory classes, either covering a toprope belay lesson, where our staff will teach you how to operate all of the necessary equipment to get into roped climbing, or an introduction to bouldering, covering a variety of climbing techniques and information to get you started on unroped bouldering walls.

For this reason, we always recommend two choices for first-time climbers; our intro packages, which include the lesson, rental gear, and a day of climbing, or our monthly membership, which includes the same Intro Package, plus a month of climbing at all eight of our gyms, a guest pass, and all of the other perks that come with a membership for just a few dollars more than the price of one day. New climbers are always welcome to try out a monthly membership, and cancel it whenever they want with no cancellation fees.

Do I need a reservation for my first visit, or are there specific times that I should come in or avoid coming?

No reservations are needed for intro lessons; they are all done on a first-come-first serve basis. The lessons take roughly thirty minutes to an hour, though, so the cutoff for when we no longer offer intro classes each day is 90 minutes before we close. Outside of that, come in any time, and we will take care of you!

My kids climb on everything. How old do they have to be to climb at Hangar 18?

Climbing is an awesome sport, and we love seeing kids in the gym. While all kids need a waiver completed by a parent or legal guardian (link) to participate, we welcome kids of all ages to come enjoy our facilities, and we do not charge parents to come in and supervise them while they are doing so (unless they are participating in a belay lesson or other class). The minimum age for kids to climb unattended is 14 on both the bouldering and roped walls, but we allow kids of any age to climb as long as their parents stay with them for the duration of their visit.

That being said, the youngest age we generally recommend for parties and group events at our roped gyms is six years old, and our bouldering gyms are typically better-suited for kids aged ten and up. If your kids are chomping at the bit and are younger than these ages, though, bring them in- over the years, we have seen kids as young as two years old get to the top of the wall in our Upland gym, and it is a pretty awesome thing when that happens.

I need to make a change to my membership, but I am out of town. What should I do?

While any changes to your membership can be made in one of our locations at any time, you can also do so via email by sending your request to dave@climbhangar18.com, and we will help you out. All emailed membership requests do take five days to process, so be sure to email far enough in advance if you have a time-sensitive request. Simple issues, like updating an expiration date, or checking to see if you have used your guest pass for the month can often be resolved more quickly by simply calling the gym directly.

If you have an issue that needs to be resolved via email, be sure to give us enough information so that we can find your account. The information that you will need to include in your email is your full name, date of birth, which location your membership was purchased in, and your keytag number. If you are contacting us regarding multiple memberships, be sure to include everyone’s information as well!
